I am Professor in the Department of Economics at Durham University and co-Director of the Centre for Environmental and Energy Economics (CE3).
My research focuses on public goods, specifically environmental public goods. I am interested in the management of global public goods and, to that end, I apply game theory to study negotiations over climate change. I am also interested in highlighting the contribution of environmental public goods to our well-being and have, therefore, worked extensively on ecosystem accounting.
Before joining Durham, I was Director and Research Professor at the Institute for Public Goods and Policies of the Spanish National Research Council. I have also been lecturer at the Universities Carlos III and Paris Est, post-doc at the CNRS in Paris and visiting scholar at the Universities of Berkeley, Columbia, Paris II, Paris Est, Bordeaux, Göttingen, Exeter, Bath and Innsbruck.
I have participated in many research projects funded by the European Commission and national agencies, and worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the United Nations Statistics Divisio. I also served as Lead Author of the chapter on International Cooperation for the WGIII Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
